The grave site of convicted and executed spies Julius and Ether Rosenberg at Wellwood Cemetery, a predominately Jewish cemetery located in Farmingdale Long Island NY, Section 5 Row G near the intersection of Axiba Dr and North Ave if you are interested in visiting. It was shot on June 19th 2013 on the 60th anniversary of their execution at around 6:45PM, almost to the minute of their pre-sundown executions. The cemetery actually closes at 4:30PM but you can actually hop over a waist high wall near the enterence. My visit was merely a curiousity to see what if any atmosphere was going on the 60th anniversary of their deaths. There were no flowers but someone left rocks on the grave which is consistent with Jewish practice. I also felt it was unusual that people who were so controversial to the general public in life would have such an easily accessible gravesite. Usually people such as Ted Bundy, Timothy McVeigh, Jeffery Dahmer and most recently the late Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev are either buried in unmarked graves or cremated.
The Rosenbergs were convicted two years earlier of attempting to sell the Soviets the secrets of how we built the atomic bomb, which obviously would have had dire consequences for us if they were successful. Ironically their scheduled execution time was around 11PM on 6/16/53 which would have fallen right onto the Jewish Sabbath. When their lawyers attempted to delay the execution on those grounds the US Government actually pushed it up a few hours to 8PM, just prior to sunset time in New York at this time of the year. So their lawyers actually cost them a few hours of life. Julius went to the chair first followed by his wife. I believe the bodies were buried under the shrubbery. They left behind two young sons.
