The lion who killed Zafroni comes to the queen, Mita, to apologize for her loss. She knows he is the one who killed her mate and possibly her cub so when she is rude to him, he points out his friends, the hyenas. Kovu comes along to defend his daughter but it ends in a war with Mita being killed. The lion claims himself as king and because of his backup, it makes him stronger than anyone else. Therefore, he banishes Kovu.

When Kovu leaves the pride lands, he finds Dalia and takes her with him. He then raises her and soon enough she grows and one day while hunting, she is saved from a fire by Mufasa. They soon begin to catch feelings for one another and Dalia ends up telling him she is the lost princess from the pride lands. Mufasa tells her she needs to fight for her kingdom and she asks why he wants that.

He tells her the lion who had taken over was his brother, Scar.
