I'm pretty sure this is probably a lot slower than just playing through the normal route, but you do skip some stuff. If it's explored a little more maybe something cool can happen. I just think it's a cool way to escape the level.
The mission resumes normally if you keep progressing through the turret building.
This starts in mission 10 right after you shut down the first set of turrets and meet Icarus by the fence
