Yup - they’re a fantastic resource - and one I also recommend to my friends, personally.

(And no, this isn’t a paid ad. I’m just grateful for them!)

When can you call Poison Control / go to poison.org?
Substance exposure: your child (or anyone) swallows a pill, a button battery, a mouthful of chemicals, a magnet, a strange-looking plant on the family hike, a toddler drinks a swig of grandpa’s whiskey, someone is exposed to another person’s medications
Bite/Stings: Snake bite, insect bite or sting
Your child Your child eats a pill. Button battery. Magnet. You’re bitten by a snake or insect.
Their exact words: “Help from Poison Control is available at www.poison.org or 1-800-222-1222, whether you have a poisoning emergency (or if you don’t know whether it’s an emergency!) or just a question. That’s right – if someone just has a question about whether something is safe to use around a baby, for example, they can call for free, confidential advice.

Who answers when you call?
Poison Control centers employ specifically-trained nurses, doctors, and pharmacists, who immediately answer your call, and are able to answer your questions, triage, and offer first aid advice.

In today’s world, where health advice can feel like you’re just wading through a morass of questionable advice, I just absolutely love knowing that this resource exists.
