Amaravati, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, is taking a major step towards a new era of **Green Mobility**, with a strong focus not only on vehicles but also on pedestrians, cyclists and green spaces. With modern infrastructure and sustainable urban planning, Amaravati is emerging as a city designed for the needs of future generations. Between 2019 and 2024, several parts of the capital region remained neglected and covered with bushes. However, with the initiatives of the coalition government, development works are now gaining momentum, bringing a new vision for Amaravati. The city is adopting advanced urban mobility concepts that give equal importance to public transportation, walking, cycling and environmental protection. Under this ambitious plan, Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) is receiving special attention. Every smart road is being designed with a 3-metre-wide footpath, a separate 3-metre-wide cycle track and a 3-metre green belt. Special colours are also being used to clearly identify cycling tracks and ensure safer movement. According to APCRDA's plans, nearly 3,200 kilometres of pedestrian pathways and cycling tracks will be developed and connected to parks across the capital city. The infrastructure is being designed to make the best use of available space. Cycling tracks are being planned over stormwater drains, while pedestrian pathways are being integrated with underground utility infrastructure. Roads, drainage systems and pedestrian facilities are being developed through a coordinated design approach. To strengthen connectivity, construction of nearly 313 kilometres of E-Series and N-Series grid roads is being accelerated. Arterial roads with widths ranging from 50 to 60 metres are also part of the development plan. One of the major projects is the six-lane Amaravati Outer Ring Road, estimated to cost ₹30,491 crore, featuring 17 interchanges. The city is also preparing for future traffic demands and environmental challenges through advanced underground utility ducts. Drinking water pipelines, electricity cables and internet connections will be organised beneath the roads, reducing the need for repeated road excavation. Modern tiles, safety features and efficient rainwater drainage systems are also being incorporated into the smart road designs. With wide roads, dedicated cycling tracks, pedestrian-friendly pathways and extensive green spaces, Amaravati is moving towards a sustainable and modern urban development model. The Green Mobility vision aims to make the capital cleaner, safer, greener and more comfortable for everyone.
