Leg Extension Technique
Targets: Quads!
This is one of the only pieces of equipment to target solely the quad muscle group on the front of your thigh. The movement produces great contractions and a huge muscular pump after a few sets! It hurts, a lot.. but you just gotta through it. Due to its nature this exercise is normally used to help tone and define the quads, as well as for growth. Although I have used it in whole body PHA circuits to great effect!
How To:
Sit on the extension machine with your back pressed into the seat.
Your knees should be bent at right angles with your feet behind the ankle pads.
Contract your quads to extend your legs, moving your feet up in an arc.
Once your legs are completely straight squeeze your quads hard, keeping your toes pointed up at all times!
Slowly return to the start and repeat.
Tips:
Turning your toes outwards will hit the vastus medialis (inner quad) and turning your toes inwards will hit the vastus lateralis (outer quad)
