The Callan Augustinian Friary, also known as St. Mary's Priory is a significant medieval landmark located in Callan, County Kilkenny, Ireland. Founded in the 15th century, it is situated in the "Abbey Meadow" on the banks of the Kings River in the town's northeast.
The friary was established following a petition in 1461 by Edmund Butler to Pope Pius II. After Edmund's death in 1462, his son James Butler oversaw the construction, likely commencing after 1467 when James received a papal dispensation to marry his cousin. The friary operated under the Observant Augustinian Canons Regular and was dissolved around 1540 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII.
