The Mumbai-Pune Expressway (officially the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway) is India's first 6-lane, access-controlled concrete tolled expressway. Spanning 94.5 kilometers, it connects Mumbai (the financial capital) to Pune (a major cultural and industrial hub) in Maharashtra, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities.
Key Details & Route
Official Name: Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway
Route: Starts at Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai and ends at Kiwale near Pune.
Distance: 94.5 kmSpeed Limits: Generally set between 80–120 km/h.
Travel Time: The trip typically takes around 2 hours.
Restrictions: Two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and agricultural tractors are prohibited.
Toll Information: One-way toll charges on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway are ₹320 for cars and jeeps, ₹495 for mini-buses, and ₹685 to ₹940 for buses and trucks. These fees are collected across two main plazas (Khalapur and Talegaon/Urse). Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) registered in Maharashtra are toll-exempt.
The "Missing Link" UpgradeThe expressway features an upgraded route called the "Missing Link" to bypass the accident-prone, 19-kilometer Khandala Ghat section. This 13.3-km corridor stretches from Khopoli to Kusgaon and includes Asia's widest twin tunnels and India's tallest cable-stayed bridge. It reduces the travel distance by 6 km and shaves roughly 25 to 30 minutes off the total transit time.
