Remote Patient Monitoring in Cancer Care

Описание: Certain cancer treatments can sometimes have difficult side effects. “Any regimen that's labeled as highly emetogenic or you're at high risk of having a complication of nausea and vomiting; those patients are all eligible for enrollment in the remote patient monitoring program,” said Medical Oncologist Dr. Janine Harewood.

Remote Patient Monitoring gives the care team daily biometric data while the patient is at home. “They get a tablet, they get a blood pressure cuff, and a thermometer. We monitor their vitals at home. There's an entire remote team who's looking at those vital inputs, and someone contacts them if anything is off. At the first sign of uncontrolled nausea, uncontrolled vomiting, we're able to do an intervention,” said Dr. Harewood.

Medical Oncologists can use these daily touchpoints to monitor how their patients are doing and proactively make changes if needed. “It is easier to do intervention earlier than later. You're getting that real time everyday data; we're able to put in interventions faster and to be able to keep patients out of the hospital,” said Dr. Harewood.

The goal is to take care of the patient as a whole and not just the diagnosis itself. “Patients love the fact that they feel when they're going home that they're just not alone, that they just haven't been given treatment and then just sent off, that there's always someone checking in on them every day.
