Both this theme and its corresponding look were all about energy – it's a shame they didn't last too long.
At the time, David Lowe's 1999 BBC News sound had started to become the main influence of news music packages all around the world. In 2003, in-house sound producer Peter Blake of TVNZ decided to take that influence to a proper rave. He pushed up the BPM by 30, ditched the distinctive beeps and accompanied the famous thunderclaps with techno hi-hats as well as a forceful kick.
Up until now, any version of the «Rave Theme» which would've been suitable for actually listening to the music itself, hadn't surfaced online. This bootleg mix was lovingly made by me with some technological magic.
