Location
The Tiki Village is located at Kilometer 31, at Varari, on the west coast of Moorea, in a wild and preserved part of the district of Haapiti, on the edge of the lagoon.
The village was founded 18 years ago by Olivier Briac, a man whose passion for Polynesian culture drove him to create a replica of a traditional Tahitian village, and the largest permanent show in Polynesia, with over 60 performers.
The village is open throughout the day. Visitors can discover the details of traditional Polynesian life, watch craftspeople at work, visit the replica of Paul Gauguin's house, admire various exhibitions, watch a Polynesian dance show, and enjoy a highly original guided tour of the island of Moorea.
Visitors can even get married, or renew their vows, in a traditional Tahitian ceremony.
Polynesian Wedding Experience
There is no place on earth more romantic than a coral-enshrined tropical island lost in the middle of the South Pacific. The gentle breeze in the palm fronds, the gorgeous sunsets, the warm, crystal-clear waters of the lagoon... everything is an invitation to love and romance. So why not live a truly magical moment and get married, renew you vows, or celebrate your wedding anniversary, in the delightful setting of Moorea, with a traditional Polynesian wedding ceremony?
The Tiki Village offers a range of three different wedding ceremonies for you to choose from, and their crew will spare no effort to make sure you take home precious, unforgettable memories.
First, the bride is taken to a secluded bamboo hut, where the village women will prepare her for the ceremony, giving her a monoi massage, and dressing her as a Tahitian princess.
Meanwhile, the groom is taken by canoe to a nearby beach, to be tattoed (in felt tip pen only) and dressed as a high chief. The couple is then reunited and welcomed by the whole village in traditional attire. On the open air temple, the ceremony can begin...
Princess Wedding
The wedding takes place in an authentic Tahitian village, where the ceremony is conducted by the village chief and a high-priest, and set to music by a band of local musicians and villagers. The happy couple are laden with beautiful leis and crowns of flowers. They also receive a bottle of champagne and a precious marriage certificate on tapa cloth (made from the bark of the breadfruit tree). They are then transported back to their hotel by minibus for their honeymoon night.
Royal Wedding
In addition, the Royal wedding comprises photographs of the ceremony, and a slighty different organisation. The couple arrives from their hotel by canoe. After the ceremony, the newlyweds are carried by four Polynesian warriors, atop the Royal Chair, for a grand procession around the village. They are then treated to a romantic cruise on the Royal outrigger canoe with a band of musicians and champagne. For no extra charge, they can even spend the night on the Royal Floating House, and be served a delicious tropical breakfast in the morning.
Royal Wedding Deluxe
The Royal Wedding Deluxe is the same ceremony, enhanced by a choir of Tahitian mamas who will shower the newlyweds with songs and good wishes. The ceremony is followed by a spectacular Tahitian dance show.
