Zainab Shakir is an accomplished electrical engineer, Zainab has recognized the need of women in Al-Najaf for a public space to host their social, business and athletic activities that at the same time caters for the cultural requirements of the city. From her conviction that reality does not change until we change it ourselves, the idea of her successful centre came to life.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
