Traveling East is the result of an inspired symbiosis between our trio the Amsterdam Jazz Connection (A.J.C.) and the rising young Dutch trumpeter Rik Mol. Rik has already achieved a star-like status across Europe for the stylistic way he performs. His style perfectly matches the sound of the A.J.C, and he has joined us to strengthen our creative connection between Amsterdam and Asia.

This release is the follow-up to our live debut album which featured the illustrious Dutch alto saxophonist, Benjamin Herman. In the past three years, the AJC has had three successful tours in Asia highlighted by a memorable performance at the infamous Tokyo Jazz Festival. We now continue 'traveling east' for concerts in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea, with many yet to come.

All of the recording techniques we used are “old school,” and replicate the stereo-image production methods used in the Blue Note Records of the nineteen-fifties. We utilized everything from authentic retro microphones to analog metal-plate reverbs - to recreate a perfect representation of the music of a bygone era. With fresh arrangements of jazz standards and three contemporary originals, Traveling East is a musical experience that is not about the destination, yet rather the journey!
