In this Video:
I show you how I added SDR capabilities to my ICOM IC-7100 using a Raspberry Pi, SDR++, an ammo can of switching goodies, and an Android tablet. The goal? To finally give my 7100 the waterfall display and touch tuning I’ve grown spoiled with on my more modern radios
I walk through the setup—using a Raspberry Pi as an SDR server using RTL-TCP, running WFView, Setting up SDR++ on the Samsung Tab A9+, and my custom Python sync script. The hardware all fits into an ammo can “not-a-bomb-looking” contraption with the components of the build
From setup on the bench to testing in my truck, I cover the full install, including the quirks, the fixes, and what I’d improve for the future. If you’ve got a 7100 (or any rig lacking a panadapter), this might just be the project your looking for. The Sync script can also be used standalone to sync SDR++ or similar software to any rig that can be controlled via a Rigctl server.
