Welcome to Part 1 of the Spring in London series! In this walk, we start in the heart of Islington and make our way down to the Thames – passing through parks, quiet streets, and some of London’s lesser-known gems, all coming to life in the spring light. 🌱

We begin in a residential part of Islington before stepping into Grimaldi Park – a small green space named after the 19th-century clown Joseph Grimaldi. It’s a spot that holds a lot of personal memories for me, growing up around here – long afternoons spent playing football, running around the flats, just soaking up that old-school freedom.

From there, we continue down Amwell Street, home to a blue plaque for Edward Irving (1792–1834) – a charismatic Scottish preacher from the early 1800s. We then pass through a quiet Exmouth Market, usually full of energy but peaceful this time of day, before heading down Farringdon Road and past Farringdon Station – one of the oldest underground stations in the world.

We stop to take in the view from Holborn Viaduct, then drop down the steps to Farringdon Street, continuing until we reach Blackfriars Bridge. With the Thames stretching out ahead and One Blackfriars glinting in the distance, it’s a calm way to end a steady spring stroll.
