The Irish Government offers grants of up to €6,500. To avail of this grant you must get a Technical Assessment completed if your home was built before 2007.
If your home was built between 2007 and 2021 you do not need to do an assessment as your home is Heat Pump ready.
The main goal of the Technical Assessment is to find the HLI (Heat Loss Indicator) of your home. If this is under 2.3 your home will be Heat Pump ready.
Most homes that had their walls pumped with insulation or have attic insulation done correctly and have double glazing in place, will be eligible for this grant.
If your HLI is over 2.3 there will be the need for some upgrades to your home.
So what are your home's requirements?
Proper insulation is crucial for Heat Hump performance.
These may include attic insulation, wall insulation, double glazing
windows and correctly sized radiators.
A correctly sized hot water tank is crucial when installing a Heat Pump.
As we are working with lower temperatures some of your radiators might need to be changed (bigger ones installed).
If your home does not meet the requirements we cannot install a Heat Pump.
Let me tell you about Technical Assessment costs.
These usually cost around €500. The SEAI will award €250 towards this when the Heat Pump is installed. Solaris will cover the other half of the cost of the Heat Pump when we install the Heat Pump.
If you had a BER done previously you can ask the Assessor to upgrade this to a Technical Assessment at a reduced cost.
