At around 8am we enter Yellowstone through the West Entrance. Within 5 minutes we have our First Bison Encounter and a few short minutes later, we are caught in a Bison Jam. We drive to the Old Faithful Inn to see if early check-in is available, but are informed that the rooms will be ready at 4pm. We stop by the Old Faithful Gift Shop, the Old Faithful Inn Espresso Cart for a cappuccino and get back on the move, heading to the Midway Geyser Basin. We spend the early afternoon exploring the Midway Geyser Basin Trail, Grand Prismatic Overlook Trail, Fountain Paint Pots and Lower Geyer Basin Trail. We continue along the Southern Loop to Fire-hole Canyon, Norris and Lake Yellowstone where we discover the first Black Bear sighting of the trip. Around 4pm we arrive back at the Old Faithful Inn and check into our Standard Double Queen Room in the West Wing. We have a few drinks at the Bear Pit Lounge before our underwhelming buffet inside the Old Faithful Dining Room. After dinner we watch the Old Faithful Geyser under the moonlight and head to bed. We are awakened at 1am by a haunted furnace. Early next morning we have a close encounter with a couple of big Bison that walk right up to our room. We tour the inside and outside of the Old Faithful Inn and review the room, food and overall experience. After grabbing coffee and a quick breakfast at the Bear Paw Cafe located in the Old Faithful Inn, we get back on the road for Lake Yellowstone where we will be staying next. See you on the lake!
