THE COHERENT SUCCESS STORY ENTERS A NEW PHASE.

Описание: One of the most interesting stories at the 2023 LASER World of PHOTONICS in Messe Muenchen emerged after a wander around the impressive Coherent Corp. stand. I found it interesting to see Optica Corporate member Coherent Corp. profiling (amongst other things) as a component supplier. But there’s a good reason for this. In July last year (2022), a company called II-VI Incorporated (two six) completed the acquisition of Coherent, Inc.

Headquartered in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, USA II-VI Incorporated had already established research and development, manufacturing, sales, service, and distribution facilities at 60 locations in 18 countries. During COVID, II-VI played a key role in the supply chain for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) genetic sequencing instruments, delivering thermal and optical components to leading instrument providers.

TURNING POINT

But as we heard from CEO, Vincent D. Mattera Jr (Chuck), during the popular Optica Executive Forum at #PhotonicsWest back in January, the acquisition marked a turning point for the new company. With its foundation in materials, the newly renamed “Coherent” announced a list of ambitions to enable the next evolution of the cloud, 3D sensing, electric vehicles, additive manufacturing, the commercialisation of space, and the personalisation of health care, just to name a few.

STRONGER TOGETHER

So, II-VI Incorporated became Coherent Corp. While the name Coherent already has a strong association with lasers, the broader meaning of the word is ‘bringing things together.’ Chuck Mattera says the new name represents their “diversity in thinking distilled into our clarity of purpose, our unity in action, and our broader sense of engagement”.

The combined company now serves four markets of industrial, communications, electronics, and instrumentation, which together represent a fast-growing total addressable market of US$65 billion. The combined company’s global workforce has grown to over 28,000 associates in 130 locations worldwide.
