Documenting my ceramics journey and slow living on the Suffolk coast.
In this chapter, I begin with test tiles.
Exploring new clay bodies, looking for textures that feel complete on their own; surfaces I’d be happy to leave uncovered.
Some tests are left bare.
Others are glazed, simply to observe how the surface changes with colour and heat.
I add small areas of carving to a few pieces,
watching how glaze settles, gathers, or breaks across texture and edge.
This part of the process is about restraint.
Learning what works before anything is finished,
and what already feels resolved without needing more.
Between studio sessions, there are quiet pauses, time spent outside, small daily routines, moments that slow the pace.
These intervals shape the work as much as the making itself.
This video is part of an ongoing clay visual diary;
a slow record of learning through observation, repetition, and time.
No talking.
Just the sounds of making.

If slowing down, being close to nature,
and quiet forms of making speak to you,
you’re welcome to follow along.
