The Fairy Tree was written in 1930 by Temple Lane and Dr. Vincent O'Brien. The author of this song, Temple Lane – the pen-name of Isabel Leslie, was given the inspiration for the song by Katie Ryan who lived just outside Clogheen (Co. Tipperary) for most of her 87 years. Dr. Vincent O'Brien wrote the music. He was a long-time friend and instructor of John McCormack. The recording was made by McCormack on December 3, 1930.

This is a recording from McCormack's Electrical Era. The complete recordings from 1925-1942 will be issued on a 16 CD set with the transfers being done by recording restoration expert, Ward Marston.
