~Last November (2021) I flew from Michigan out to Oregon to see family. While I was there I collected pine resin and saved it in a gallon zip bag with plans to have my brother to ship it back to me in Michigan so I did not need to take it on the plane. I got it back last month. I've saved the videos from Oregon collecting pine pitch for when I got the pitch in my possession. Some of this video was filmed with a shaky phone camera. I do apologize. I did my best with the limited recourses.
I like using the heat gun but only for melting clean resin that is already strained. Trying to melt resin that is not clean enough or strained, the heat gun creates smoke and allot of overheated resin. I learned this when I was out back trying to melt the resin and strain it. The tree particles like bark tend to burn in the screen and can cause an unnatural darkening. This causes the amber red to blacken a little if not all the way. I'm not going for pine tar. I want the natural color of the resin. I recommend sticking to a pot or tin and setting it directly on charcoals or an electric stove (outside) and stir then strain.
