The wrong way to survive a nuclear explosion

What actually works, according to Ready.gov:
• Get inside, away from windows. A basement or the middle of a big brick or concrete building is best. You don't need a bunker.
• Sheltering usually lasts at least 24 hours. Fallout radiation drops fast over the first day, so don't pop out early.
• Pack water (1 gallon per person per day), food for several days, and a battery-powered or hand-crank radio.
• Stay tuned, and leave only when officials say it's safe.
