Peripheral Nerve Ultrasound is an excellent imaging modality for diagnosing various peripheral nerve pathologies including traumatic nerve injuries, entrapment neuropathies, inflammatory, hereditary, infective and neoplasticism nerve pathologies. It is a very cost effective and reliable imaging modality which provides high resolution images of upper and lower extremity peripheral nerves.
Common conditions that can be diagnosed by peripheral nerve ultrasound include:
1) Traumatic nerve injuries
2) Entrapment neuropathies including carpal tunnel syndrome, tarsal tunnel syndrome etc.
3) Peripheral nerve palsies such as Foot Drop, Nondiscogenic ulnar, radial & median nerve palsies etc.
4) Hereditary neuropathies
5) Peripheral nerve sheath tumours e.g. Schwannoma, neurofibromas etc.
6) Nerve compression by ganglion cyst, hematoms, surgical prosthesis, vascular aneurysms etc.
