Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is no more, and her son Tarek Rahman is leading the BNP in this crucial election. Sympathy following Khaleda Zia’s death is believed to be strengthening the BNP’s position. Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami has formed an alliance with student groups, and the student revolution could give Jamaat additional momentum.

A major question remains: where will Awami League supporters cast their votes? First-time voters are also expected to play a decisive role. Voting will continue until 4:30 PM today. Citizens of Bangladesh are voting using two ballots — the white ballot for electing Members of Parliament, and the pink ballot for the constitutional reform referendum.
