Biliary atresia is the most common reason for NeonatalJaundice. It is the common indication for chronic #liver damage, #cirrhosis , and liver #transplantation. In biliary atresia common #bile duct is malformed and this leads to increased bilirubin and ultimately jaundice. It causes malabsorption of fat-soluble components and deficiency of vitamins A, D, E, and K. In the initial days, jaundice is the only sign of biliary atresia. So, parents should be vigilant that if the jaundice in a child persists beyond two weeks, they should go for a blood test. In biliary atresia, stools become clay-colored, and diaper staining is common. When children come to us with these kinds of symptoms we have a panel of blood tests to diagnose the tests and sometimes liver biopsy is also done to confirm the disease. If we #diagnose biliary atresia within 60–90 days of birth, a corrective surgery known as a Kasai portoenterostomy can be done.
