Welcome back. Today we will examine a seldom-discussed narrative which I believe will truly begin to paint a new picture of The Old World. Ancient technology has often been a topic I dive into, but today we will look at a piece of ancient technology so remarkable, and so outlandish, it’s hard to imagine this device existed at all.
Yet, at the heart of the narrative, “The Steam Horse”, or Mechanical Traveler, appears to have truly set the standard for the technology that followed. All of this history ties back to a mysterious company of iron merchants in Derbyshire, England. In 1790 they purchased a massive, abandoned Old World monastery, only to discover rich deposits of iron beneath the structure. They found the iron while constructing an early red brick tunnel.
If this sounds intriguing to you, just wait until we discuss “The Steam Horse” which was an early Steam Vehicle, not propelled by its wheels, but rather by two steel, steam-powered legs. Founded in 1813, The Steam Horse quite literally reshaped the narrative around Steam Power in numerous ways. I’ve included as many photographs, artistic depictions, and other useful information as possible. Please leave your thoughts, ideas, and theories in the comment section down below!
