3 Mysteries of antarctica
1. Scientists have discovered the mysterious phenomenon known as Blood Falls, which is only accessible by helicopter or cruise ships visiting the Ross Sea in Antarctica. In the McMurdo Dry Valley, a bright crimson, five-storey waterfall pours out of Taylor Glacier into Lake Bonney. The water that feeds Blood Falls was once a salty lake that is now cut off from the atmosphere due to the formation of glaciers on top of it.
2. Hitler did have a passion for the occult and it is believed that he was searching for something in Antarctica during World War Two. The Nazi Germans built a station in Antarctica - however it was abandoned 70 years ago after the crew were poisoned by polar bear meat.

3. A hole the size of Ireland opened in Antarctica in 2017. Known as a polynya, the hole is nothing new - except with a span of 78,000 square kilometres, it's the largest hole to be observed since the 1970s.

3 facts about Antartica that may shock you.
1. If you stand at the South Pole, you are at the southernmost point on Earth. It doesn't matter which way you look, every direction is north.
It’s based on the prime meridian, an imaginary line which passes through Greenwich in the UK at 0 degrees of longitude. If you stand at the South Pole and face towards Greenwich, everything to your left is west Antarctica and everything to your right is east Antarctica.
2. Antarctica is home to several volcanoes and two of them are active. Mount Erebus, the second-highest volcano in Antarctica is the southernmost active volcano on Earth. The second active volcano is on Deception Island, a volcanic caldera in the South Shetland Islands.
3. In 1959, 12 countries signed an agreement to govern the Antarctic continent together as a reserve for peace and science. Since then, 41 other countries have signed the Treaty and participate in annual meetings. All decisions made within the Antarctic Treaty System are made by consensus, with collaboration and agreement as the central pillars.
