Controversy surrounds the Tide Organ on South Promenade Blackpool as the artist accuses the council of not maintaining it, causing it to not work as it should do, as well as being a danger to the public with the pipes said to be in an unsafe condition. The artwork was installed in 2002 and was supposed to be in place for 12 years, but it still stands, and the council are keen to keep it in place even if it does not play a tune, but the artist is not happy with it staying if it doesn't work as it should.
