A surge of violence in Pakistan’s Balochistan has highlighted the role of female fighters in the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), with Hawa Baloch and Asifa Mengal openly acknowledged as part of high-impact ‘fidayeen’ attacks. The BLA claims its Operation Herof Phase II spanned over 40 hours across Kharan, Mastung, Tump, Pasni, and parts of Quetta and Noshki, alleging over 200 Pakistani military and paramilitary personnel were killed. Pakistan’s military, however, reported more than 130 separatists killed during two days of operations. According to the BLA, Asifa Mengal carried out a vehicle-borne suicide attack on an ISI facility in Noshki, while Hawa Baloch fought at the Gwadar front, releasing a video message reportedly recorded hours before her death.
