"We've all got a lot of work to do I think, those of us in the coalition provisional authority and the Iraqi people, to work on these very urgent problems, particularly looking after the Iraqis of the next generation. So I have a good impression of the really heroic work that's being done here by a lot of doctors under very difficult conditions and I have pledged to them that I will continue to do my best with the coalition provisional authority to bring them the supplies, medical supplies, and other things they need to get the medical services, particularly for children, running again as quickly as possible."

STORYLINE:
The new chief civilian administrator for Iraq has been visiting a children's hospital in Baghdad.
Paul Bremer, who took over the post on Monday, toured the hospital on Thursday to see how it was coping with its limited facilities and supplies.
Bremer said the staff at the hospital were carrying out what he called "heroic work" under very difficult conditions. He said he had promised the hospital that he would do his best to make sure it got the medical supplies it needed.
The chief civilian administrator is also working on improving security in the city, including a policy to regulate
firearms.
Local U-N agency heads have told Bremer that security must be reinforced quickly to protect food supplies and other
elements of post-war recovery.
