Today we're replacing the pilot assembly on a 40 gallon natural gas AO Smith water heater. Working with gas can be dangerous, please understand that you assume all responsibility for undertaking this project yourself. That being said, the replacement is fairly simple, but requires attention to detail. When you have no hot water though, it may be worth the effort! If your gas water heater stops heating, this is usually the problem. Sometimes you can replace ONLY the thermocouple, but this model requires the entire assembly.
