Now this is what I like to see. Black & Gold paired with some significant striking power, how can you go wrong? The Black Venom is the true successor to the venom recoil featuring the Gear APG asymmetric core with the leverage MFS solid reactive cover recently featured on the jackal ambush, coming out of the box at a 4000 grit.

Knowing the design intent was to make this a benchmark option meant going with a benchmark layout. The 4.5x5x2 2LS layout is a strong, simple one that has worked really well on other, similar pieces, so the hope was that it would give this newest option a good look as well.

AND ON THE LANES, I was blown away by how good this thing looked. With how strong the Jackal ambush was, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to use this piece in the part of the lane I really wanted to, but boy could I and then some. It struck from everywhere and did so with authority, splitting the 8-9 frequently.

Another interesting and fun thing about the venom black was how loud the strikes were. It seemed like no matter where I stood or what trick I had to do with my hand, it hit the pins like it was mad at them which is an intimidating sound I love to create.

On the downside, for being a benchmark type piece for the motiv line, its surprisingly strong off the end of a pattern. If I were a motiv exclusive bowler headed out to Reno for nationals, I would definitely be bringing one with, but would also be ready to knock the surface down to get it to be slower off the spot. What that will do to your carry percentage remains to be seen.

I think pairing this piece with a Primal shock is a 1-2 punch that is sure to light up your scores as they both have a similar level of performance and versatility, but much different methods of getting to and through the pocket.

So with that, here’s my recommendations on types of bowlers that I think would match up well with this piece. The first is low axis rotation players. If you stay behind it and just roll it off your hand, the strength of the cover will dig in and get it rolling while the core strength will power it to the pocket without you having to do something you're uncomfortable doing. The second is speed dominant bowlers. The last few releases from Motiv, I haven’t been able to make this recommendation, so I’m glad to say that if you need a ball that you won’t doubt that it will hook, this is a great option for just that.

The all new black venom from Motiv has great shelf appeal, but adding this kind of striking power to your arsenal makes it more than just a pretty face.
