Digitizing Hidden Collections: Amplifying Unheard Voices (DHC:AUV) Applicant Support Series

This is the first session offering guidance and advice to those preparing final applications for the 2026 Digitizing Hidden Collections: Amplifying Unheard Voices program. Today’s session provides an overview that will orient applicants to the process of turning an initial submission into a competitive final application. This session walks through the final application (including the updated Application Guidelines), touches on what the review process looks like, shares details about the resources and support available to applicants over the next month, and answers preliminary questions from applicants.

Digitizing Hidden Collections: Amplifying Unheard Voices is a grant competition administered by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) for digitizing rare and unique content stewarded by collecting organizations in the US and Canada. Launched in 2021, with the generous support of the Mellon Foundation, the program has awarded approximately $12 million to archives, historical societies, libraries, museums, and other collecting organizations to deepen public understanding of the histories of people of color and other communities and populations whose work, experiences, and perspectives have been insufficiently recognized or unattended. The program builds upon the foundation of the previous iteration, Digitizing Hidden Special Collections and Archives, which awarded $20,000,000 in digitization grants from 2016 to 2020.
