STORYLINE :
Every week, Palestinian Doctor, Izzeldin Abuelaish leaves his home in the Gaza Strip to work in a fertility clinic in the southern Israeli town of Beersheba.
While rocks, rockets and bullets fly in the latest tensions in the region, Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish spends his working week at the ultra-modern fertility clinic at Soroka Hospital helping Israeli couples who are having trouble conceiving a child.
Each Friday, after a long week of working, he packs his bags and returns to the Jabaliya Refugee Camp and the home he shares with his wife, six children and extended family.
The Arab-Israeli conflict has twice cost the family its home. Israeli helicopters have fired rockets into his neighborhood.
When asked why a Palestinian would work as an obstetrician at a major Israeli hospital and opening his house to Israeli visitors, Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish says his goal is to help develop trust between Palestinians and Israelis.
Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish is 46 years old. A compact, energetic man, he started working at Soroka Hospital in 1993, the year Israelis and Palestinians began peace talks.
Since then, negotiations have foundered but his relations with Israelis have flourished.
The Israeli head of the unit, Professor Gad Potaznik, is full of praise for the difficult line Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish constantly walks - bridging the gap between two warring worlds.
