This playlist presents 1988, one of the boldest, most imaginative, and unforgettable years in One Life to Live history. I’ve gathered and restored every surviving episode and fragment from this year, arranging them in chronological order where possible and carefully splicing scenes from multiple sources to preserve story flow. Nothing here is re-edited or rewritten — this is the year as it aired, rescued from original home recordings and preserved so fans can finally experience it again.

A Year Like No Other: The Past, The Future, and Llanview in Between
• The Old West / Buchanan City, 1888
The year opens with the legendary time-travel arc, as Viki Buchanan (Erika Slezak) journeys to Buchanan City, 1888, meeting her ancestors and confronting the roots of the Buchanan legacy.
Filmed at the historic Old Tucson Studios in Arizona — the same location used for classic Western films.
Actors Phil Carey (Asa) and Clint Ritchie (Clint) both spoke about how filming in a real Western set felt like coming home.
• Many actors played dual roles — their present-day selves and their late-19th-century ancestors — highlighting OLTL’s theatrical range.
• The arc introduced Blaize Aldrich, portrayed by Loyita Chapel, who in real life was married to Robert S. Woods (Bo).
• The storyline was directed by Tommy Shemmel, whose sweeping camera movement and staging gave daytime TV the feel of a feature film.
Blaize later travels forward into 1988 — creating one of the most memorable time bending stories and comedy with Cassie as the catalyst.
• Tina says Cord at the altar: In a single, unforgettable moment, Tina (Andrea Evans) accidentally says “Cord” at her wedding to Max (James DePaiva) — and the fallout detonates into weeks of heartbreak, jealousy, and the re-ignition of Tina & Cord’s saga.
• Tina & Cord’s on-again / off-again odyssey: Their breakup, near-misses and final reunions (including their November double wedding) drive the season’s emotional core.
• The Faux-Bo / Patrick London plot: A man posing as Bo Buchanan (part of a larger hostile-takeover / impostor plot involving Dr. Patrick London) rocks the Buchanans and delivers one of the year’s biggest identity thrillers.
• Ursula Blackwell & the lighthouse kidnapping: Ursula Blackwell resurfaces as a genuinely unhinged antagonist, kidnapping Tina in a foggy lighthouse sequence — played in 1988 by Jill Larson (who later became better known on All My Children).
• Megan & Fraternity Row — the soap-within-a-soap: The arrival of Megan Gordon (Jessica Tuck) and the Fraternity Row storyline gave 1988 a meta, self-aware subplot that added humor and glitter to Llanview’s chaos.
• Viki & Clint’s third wedding in a beautiful wedding ceremony by the gazebo.
Lee Halpern’s Death
One of 1988’s most shocking turns:
Lee Halpern — tied to past crimes and secrets — is shot and killed by her daughter Mari-Lynn in a devastating emotional climax that ripples across multiple storylines.
• Asa & Renée / Tina & Cord double wedding: The season culminates in high-stakes matrimonial drama — double weddings, power plays, and the Buchanan dynasty flexing in all its scandalous glory and the exploding cake.
• The Wedding Cake with the Bomb
And yes — the year also delivers the infamous wedding cake loaded with explosives, one of the most outrageous, suspenseful, and unforgettable wedding moments in daytime history.
About the Restoration
These episodes were preserved from original VHS broadcast recordings, many sourced from different collectors and regions.
I have:
• Reassembled missing segments where possible
• Kept all original tape cuts and transitions
• Respectfully preserved commercials, bumpers, and fades when included
• Organized and labeled every upload by story order and airdate range
This is 1988 as it survived — raw, real, and legendary.
