Cold Tape | Synthwave Snowboarding the Mid Atlantic

After a quick 3-day turnaround from our last trip, we hit Virginia's mountains using the Indie Pass for the first time. What started as a simple snowboarding weekend turned into something more: my daughter's transition from skis to snowboard, farm work at a horse rescue, and the most intense sledding session of our lives on a bizarre hardened sleet surface.

This is Cold Tape. A retro-aesthetic winter journey with a synthwave soundtrack.

🎬 WHAT HAPPENED
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

• First period back to snowboarding since ACL surgery
• My daughter begins learning snowboarding over two days
• My son rides two new Virginia mountains and works on board slides
• Discovered a van cooking hack using double doors as windbreak
• Helped out at Hopes Equine Rescue - watering, breaking ice, filling hay
• Sledded down onto a retention pond on the weirdest snow surface we've ever seen
• No eating out, all food made from whole ingredients at the van or farm
• Had fun riding around the farm on the Gator through ice and snow with Kyle.
• Laughed a lot and made some great memories!

❄️ THE SNOW SITUATION
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The snow conditions were bizarre. Last week's storm dropped mostly sleet - heavy, dense, and after it settled, the top surface hardened completely. You could walk on it without leaving footprints. Throw ice chunks and they'd careen through the woods without stopping. Off the groomed runs? Treacherous. But for sledding? Absolutely perfect (and terrifying).

This was our first time using the Indie Pass - a season pass that gets you access to independent ski resorts across North America. Wintergreen and Massanutten are both on the pass, making this quick Virginia mountain tour super affordable. Worth checking out if you're tired of mega-resort prices.
