Utilizing the Cocotb Python Framework for Efficient Functional Verification
Cocotb is a framework that allows for verification test cases written in Python to interact with DUTs being simulated in common simulation tools. Compared to classical approaches for verification, Cocotb has very low upfront engineering costs. With access to the full functionality of the Python programming language, the complexity of testbenches can scale up as required.
Christian Tchilikov is a Digital Design Engineer at semify GmbH. semify specializes in digital design and verification for ASICs and FPGAs. semify’s in-house product SmartWave is built on an FPGA system and is designed for professional testing of devices that utilize standard communication protocols. SmartWave was developed primarily using open source tools, and all verification of the system was done via Cocotb.
