Emergency crews stage in Snyder as high wildfire danger rises across West Texas

Описание: Emergency crews from multiple agencies have been staged in Snyder, just outside Abilene, as wildfire danger increases across West Texas.

Officials say strong wind gusts, hot temperatures and extremely dry conditions are creating a high risk for wildfires, with the potential for fires to spread quickly if one ignites.

According to the City of Snyder’s Office of Emergency Management Facebook page, the city has been asked to host a 50-person All-Hazards Strike Team through Friday because of critical to extreme wildfire conditions across the region. Firefighters, emergency responders and equipment are now positioned in Snyder so they can respond quickly wherever they are needed.

Officials said residents who notice fire trucks, equipment or crews from different departments around town should not be alarmed, describing the presence as part of a coordinated effort to prepare and protect communities ahead of potential wildfire threats.

The city also thanked Western Texas College and the Coliseum for allowing crews to use their facilities while they are stationed in Snyder.

Gov. Greg Abbott has increased the state’s emergency response level and directed additional firefighters, aircraft and emergency resources to be placed in high-risk areas across West Texas. State officials said pre-staging crews allows for faster response times, which can help slow the spread of fires and protect lives, homes and property.

Local officials also encouraged the community to support the teams as they work to keep the region safe during dangerous fire weather conditions. Crews are expected to remain in Snyder through Friday.
