About Our Speakers
Ambassador Daniel B. Shapiro is a distinguished fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative. From 2022 to 2023, he was the Director of the N7 Initiative. In his most recent government service, Shapiro was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East from 2024 to 2025, and prior to that was Senior Adviser on Regional Integration in the State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. He is a former US ambassador to Israel, having served in that role from 2011 to 2017. Prior to his appointment, he worked as senior director for the Middle East and North Africa on the National Security Council at the White House, following his role as senior policy adviser in Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. From 2001 to 2007, Shapiro worked as legislative director and later deputy chief of staff for then US Senator Bill Nelson. From 1999 to 2001, he was director for legislative affairs at the National Security Council, serving as congressional liaison for National Security Adviser Sandy Berger. Shapiro also previously served as a staff member on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe and the Middle East and as a senior foreign policy adviser to US Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Emma Goss is a reporter at J. the Jewish News of Northern California and a freelance reporter for NBC Bay Area. Her reporting for J on the impacts of antisemitism in Bay Area schools and communities has won several regional journalism awards, and has helped bring awareness and spur actions toward combatting antisemitism. She is also the host and creator of J’s original podcast, Such a Match!
Nadav Eyal is one of Israel's most prominent journalists and a winner of the Sokolov Award—Israel's equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize. He writes columns for Yediot Ahronot and Ynet, Israel's most widely circulated newspaper and news website, respectively, and is a Contributor at the Call Me Back podcast. Beginning on October 7, 2023, he has focused his work on stories and analyses related to the massacres perpetrated in Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza and the northern border of Israel, including reporting multiple times from the field. He also serves as a senior commentator for Channel 12, one of Israel's two commercial channels. Throughout his journalistic career, Eyal has extensively covered Middle East affairs, Israel's role in a globalized world and Washington-Jerusalem relations. His writings have appeared occasionally in Haaretz, the Daily Telegraph, Der Spiegel, The Washington Post, and The Daily Beast. He has held senior positions in major Israeli media groups, interviewed four Israeli prime ministers and foreign heads of state. In 2015, during his tenure as Channel 10's chief international correspondent, Haaretz described Eyal as "a knight of common sense...a synonym for TV journalism at its best."
