Unsaturated organic compounds decolorise bromine water (Br2 (aq) color changes from brown to colorless).
The reason: unsaturated compounds have double or triple bonds between carbon atoms. Bromine adds to the molecule across the double bond.
Saturated substances give negative result - the brown colour remains.
