From Long Beach to San Diego, Southern California is holding back the Pacific with sand berms, timber and borrowed time. On the Long Beach Peninsula, about 3,600 feet of bulkhead has been shored up and a dredging job of more than eleven million dollars is under way, yet the king tide of Monday, October 26 still crossed the berms, and at Mission Beach in San Diego a berm breached. The highest predicted tides of the season begin on November 24.
