STORYLINE:
The United Arab Emirates Minister of Economy stated Friday that the UAE and Turkey are aiming to more than double non-oil trade between the two countries in the next five years, to reach $40 billion dollars.
Speaking in Dubai, ministers from the two nations announced a new trade agreement which would reduce or cancel custom duties on 93% of non-oil bilateral trade and create tens of thousands of jobs.
The Turkish Minister for Trade Mohamed Mus said the agreement would carry trade and economic relations into a "new dimension" between the two countries.
The agreement comes as Turkey faces a massive rebuilding challenge after a series of powerful earthquakes killed tens of thousands of people.
UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Payed Al Nahyan was present for the signing ceremony, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan joined via a conference call.
