The classic movie, Kings Row (1942) is a film about a small town with big secrets. Starring Robert Cummings, Ann Sheridan and Ronald Reagan the movie explores the effect of a fictional small town's hypocrisy and dark secrets of a group of young people.

Based on the novel "Kings Row" by Henry Bellamann, and a fictionalized account of his own youth growing up in Fulton, Missouri the film adaptation represents the first time the dark underbelly of small town life made an appearance on screen.

Production designer, William Cameron Menzies, crafts a small town built from the ground up on the Warner Brothers backlot and it's a town that expertly brings to life late 19th century American small town life.

Ann Sheridan, Robert Cummings, Ronald Reagan (in his famous where's the rest of me role), Claude Rains, Betty Field, Charles Coburn and Judith Anderson round out the stellar cast in this Warner Brothers first class production. The film set the stage for later 1950s small town melodramas like Peyton Place, All That Heaven Allows, Some Came Running and many more.
