Innland is the largest county in Norway in terms of area. It's approximately 50,000 square kilometers large, larger than Slovakia! Innland also boasts Norway's tallest mountain, Galdhøpiggen, at 2,469 meters. In fact, Innland also has the second tallest mountain, Glittertinden, at 2,452 meters. The largest lake in Innland, Mjøsa, is also found here. Many of Innland's important cities are actually situated around Lake Mjøsa.

As you can see, Innland is a county with vast and stunning natural landscapes—huge mountains and large lakes. Additionally, it's a county with extensive forests and wide valleys. Two of Norway's largest valleys, Gudbrandsdalen and Østerdalen, are located in Innland. In addition to these large valleys, Norway's longest river flows through Innland. It’s called Glomma, flowing from Trøndelag, through Innland, all the way to Fredrikstad in Østfold.

Innland boasts magnificent natural beauty, with nine national parks partially or entirely located within its borders. Jotunheimen, located in both Innland and Vestland, houses all of Norway's 23 highest peaks. This means that the largest, second largest, third largest, and all the way to the 23rd largest mountains are situated within the Jotunheimen National Park. In addition to Jotunheimen, notable national parks include Dovrefjell, Rondane, and Femundsmarka.

Innland is not just about nature; it's also home to many beautiful and renowned cities. The largest cities in Innland are all situated around Mjøsa, Norway's largest lake. Hamar, Gjøvik, and Lillehammer are the three largest cities in Innland, each with approximately 30,000 inhabitants. Hamar serves as the administrative center and is known for hosting one of the world's largest skating rinks, the Vikingskipet. Gjøvik, on the other hand, boasts an incredibly cool hockey rink built inside a mountain: the Gjøvik Olympic Mountain Hall.

Lillehammer is perhaps the most famous of the three cities. Lillehammer was the host of the 1994 Winter Olympics. This was Norway's second time hosting the Winter Olympics, and it was a grand event. Lillehammer made a lasting impression. People from all over the world saw how beautiful Lillehammer was and how fantastic the sporting event turned out. In fact, the President of the International Olympic Committee, Juan Antonio Samaranch, said that Lillehammer was "the best Olympics Winter Games ever".

Today, Lillehammer offers many exciting attractions to visit. For example, you can visit the ski jumping hill used during the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics. Additionally, you can stroll along an incredibly charming shopping street lined with wooden houses from the 1800s. Or, you can visit Maihaugen, an outdoor museum featuring many beautiful historical buildings from Norway, including old farmhouses and stave churches. Lillehammer also boasts some of the finest ski trails in Norway.

So, we've talked a lot about Innland. But why is the county called "Innlandet"? "Innland" means the inner part of a country, i.e., a part that doesn't have a coastline. And indeed, Innlandet doesn't have a coastline. It's the only county in Norway without one. All the other counties in Norway are coastal, but not Innlandet. That's why it's called Innlandet.

Innlandet er det største fylke i Norge i areal. Det er ca. 50 000 kvadratkilometer stort. Det er større enn Slovakia! Innlandet har også det største fjellet i Norge, Galdhøpiggen på 2 469 meter. Faktisk har Innlandet også det nest største fjellet Glittertinden på 2 452 meter. Vi finner også den største innsjøen i Innlandet, Mjøsa. Rundt innsjøen Mjøsa ligger faktisk mange av de viktigste byene i Innlandet.
Som dere ser, er Innlandet et fylke med mye stor og flott natur. Store fjell og store innsjøer. I tillegg er det et fylke med mye skog og store dalfører. Et dalføre er en lang dal eller et område med mange lange daler. To av Norges største dalfører ligger i Innlandet: Gudbrandsdalen og Østerdalen. I tillegg til store daler, renner Norges lengste elv gjennom Innlandet. Norges lengste elv heter Glomma og renner fra Trøndelag, gjennom Innlandet og helt til Fredrikstad i Østfold.
I Innlandet er det mye flott natur. Faktisk ligger ni nasjonalparker delvis eller helt i Innlandet. Jotunheimen ligger i Innlandet og Vestland. I Jotunheimen finner du alle de 23 høyeste fjellene i Norge. Altså ligger det største, det nest største, det tredje største og helt til det 23. største fjellet i nasjonalparken Jotunheimen. I tillegg til Jotunheimen, kan vi nevne de kjente og flotte nasjonalparkene Dovrefjell, Rondane og Femundsmarka.
Innlandet er ikke bare natur. Det er også mange fine og kjente byer i Innlandet.
