After a lifetime of digestive problems, Shivan Sarna was diagnosed with Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth in 2015. She was so excited to finally have a name for the symptoms that made me miserable – but I was quickly very frustrated by how hard it was to get access to reliable SIBO information or even an appointment with a doctor who had experience treating SIBO. I set out to get answers about SIBO for myself – but along the way, I met hundreds (and then thousands) of other people like you who had the same problems: How do we find experts who really understand SIBO? What do we do if we can’t travel to see one of these experts? Will we have to suffer forever?

Dr. Alena Guggenheim is a Naturopathic Physician with a passion for helping patients that don’t fit neatly in the medical box. Medicine is in her genes as a 4th generation physician, but she brings a new approach in which seemingly unrelated symptoms are approached within the context of the whole person. In 2015 she started working for a technology-driven health care system working with a collaborative multidisciplinary team. Dr. Guggenheim became the go-to provider when patients had complex symptoms in many systems and started to notice that many patients had undiagnosed hypermobile connective tissue diseases. Helping to understand and treat these diseases has become her passion.
