3 of the biggest mistakes I see basketball players make in the weight room 👇🏻:
1. TRAIN LIKE A BODYBUILDER. High rep, body part splits, and other bodybuilder techniques are phenomenal for building muscle size, but it does a poor job of making you fast and explosive.
2. TRAIN TOO SLOW. I come across a lot of basketball players who usually train for hypertrophy/size, but they’re missing training their nervous system and muscle to produce force fast. As a result, they take forever to produce a lot of force that doesn’t translate well to the court.
3. DON’T LIFT HEAVY. They lift too light, in part because they don’t know how to follow progressive overload for building strength rather than size. This ultimately leads to not being able to produce more force to win contact battles.
How do you overcome these mistakes? Lift heavy and move athletically (sprint, bounce, jump).
