Описание: In the 2nd episode of Costa Rica, we are going to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. We will join a guided tour first to see some animals and birds. After that, hike with me to another 2 trails to see the viewpoint and waterfall. The weather was super nice one the day that I filmed, so you can only see the "cloud" scene at the begining of the video. The reserve has its own lodge which is a good accomodation option, which will be shown at the end of the video.

What is Cloud Forest?
Cloud forests are usually found along the sides of the mountains at elevations of between 3000 and 10000 feet.

Comparing to rainforests, the trees in cloud forests are generally shorter with rough trunks and branches that form compact crowns which serve to intercept any wind-driven cloud moisture.

Cloud forests have low-level cloud cover which is usually found at the canopy level. The layer of clouds and mist occurring form through the evaporation of water forming warm air masses.

The air mass is carried upwards by the wind currents until it strikes the sides of the mountain and is deflected upwards due to the naturally sloping land.

As the air masses rise towards the mountains, they begin to cool. The moisture in them condenses and begins to cool forming clouds and mist.

It also helps to promote a huge amount of biodiversity, particularly within the type of plants known as epiphytes.

These plants grow on larger trees non-parasitically, collecting their moisture and nutrients from the air, rain, and debris that surround them.

In Monteverde Cloud Forest, there are over 100 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, and 1,200 species of amphibians and reptiles living within its bounds.

It’s one of the few remaining habitats that support all six species of the cat family, as well as the endangered three-wattled bellbird and resplendent quetzal.
