Rescue teams worked overnight to assist all the people who were trapped in the collapsed building in Verulam north of Durban. Builders were adding concrete on the top level of the multi storey temple when it collapsed. At least one person died.
The eThekwini Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal says preliminary reports confirm that no building plans were approved for the four story temple that collapsed at Redcliffe Several construction workers were taken to hospital. Meanwhile, the minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson is expected to visit the site today.
He is set to receive a full briefing into the disaster as well as rescue efforts. KwaZulu Natal COGTA spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila says the minister will be accompanied by KZN MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Martin Myer as well as COGTA MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi.
