he New York City Marathon passes through the Hasidic Jewish part of Williamsburg. This stretch is now called the “silent mile.” Since many runners are not modestly dressed, Hasidim are asked to avoid the route. They don’t line the streets to cheer. But life goes on. Kids still go to school. Parents still head to work. The marathon blocks a main route, so you get this striking scene: Hasidim running one way, runners the other. To everyone running in any direction this Sunday, may the road be kind to you! 🎉 Many thanks to @hasidiminusa for the wonderful footage and always being so generous with it.
