Breaking down the sales figures, Europe has seen 65,367 Qashqais and 34,663 X-Trails sold, all equipped with the e-POWER system. The UK market has been particularly receptive, accounting for over 20% of these sales, with 18,591 Qashqai and 2,435 X-Trail models sold.

The e-POWER system distinguishes itself by powering the vehicle's wheels exclusively with an electric motor, similar to a fully electric vehicle. This setup provides a driving experience that is smooth, effortless, and notably quiet. The technology has been well-received by customers, who often highlight the serene driving experience and the system's simplicity. The e-POWER system includes an efficient petrol engine, but its role is solely to generate electricity. This electricity then charges the on-board battery, which powers the electric motor.

The e-POWER system's operation is dynamic. When driving demands are low and the battery is sufficiently charged, the electric motor operates purely on battery power. As power needs increase, the petrol engine kicks in to generate electricity, both for immediate use and to recharge the battery. In situations requiring maximum power, the electric motor draws electricity from both the engine and the battery. Additionally, the system is designed to recapture energy during vehicle motion, sending it back to the battery.

Road conditions also influence how the e-POWER system functions. For instance, in noisier road environments or at higher speeds, the engine activates more frequently to maintain the battery's charge. This ensures the engine's operation is optimized for quieter conditions.

Arnaud Charpentier, Region Vice President of Product Strategy & Pricing at Nissan AMIEO, expressed pride in the customer recognition of e-POWER's benefits, both in terms of efficiency and driving experience. David Moss, Senior Vice President of Region Research and Development at Nissan AMIEO, further emphasized e-POWER's role as a key element in Nissan's electrification strategy, particularly for customers not ready for a fully electric vehicle but eager for the smoothness of electric motor-driven wheels.

In celebration of this milestone, Nissan is showcasing the e-POWER technology's inner workings using projection technology on a Nissan Qashqai and X-Trail model. This display, based on 3D models of the e-POWER engine and drivetrain, turns each vehicle into a canvas, highlighting how the system's unique configuration contributes to a responsive and quiet drive.

The current Qashqai model, launched in 2021, is the third iteration of Nissan's urban crossover. Designed in London and developed near Bedford, UK, it continues to build on its pioneering status in the European automotive sector. The X-Trail, tailored for adventurous families, combines the e-POWER technology with an optional twin-motor e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system, offering a blend of excitement and practicality for various outings.

The X-Trail, produced in Nissan's Kyushu plant in Japan, has been a global success for over 20 years, now available in more than 100 markets. The latest generation continues the legacy established by its predecessors, offering families a vehicle for adventure and excitement.
